Katie Couric, Matt Lauer getting the team back together?
Could Katie Couric and Matt Lauer be planning a TV reunion? In recent weeks, rumors have swirled that both anchors are unhappy in their current gigs -- Couric is anchor of the "CBS Evening News" and Lauer is still where Couric left him five years ago, co-hosting NBC's "Today" show. Now the New York Times is reporting that NBC exec Jeff Zucker, who originally paired the two for "Today," may have a plan to bring them back together.
"I think the three of them think it would be awesome to get together again," a source tells the Times. "It still seems more likely NBC will keep Matt. But it's not out of the question."
Hey, since Lauer's current "Today" co-host Meredith Vieira is also rumored to be looking to jump ship, maybe Couric can just hop back into her old chair at NBC. Yet again leaving Ann Curry as the perpetual bridesmaid.

Both Katie and Matt are excellent interviewers and the prospect of them doing that as a team again is very good news. Ann Curry does not have their skill at that.
Matt should look at his predecessors and realize that success on Today doesn't translate into automatic success elsewhere.
It would be interesting for NBC to start a night-time version of Today. It couldn't be any worse than their lame prime time lineup.
I like Meredith Vieira, but I wondered why they didn't move Ann Curry into the co-host position when Katie left. It also seems Today should look at getting younger on-air talent. I would think finding hosts in their late 20s or early 30s would attract a younger audience.
For all the talk that Matt and Meredith are looking at leaving they may be jockeying for talks to extend their contracts. I figure NBC would pay a premium to keep them in place.
That's all we need...more of the Today show in primetime, but this is NBC we're talking about so who knows. As for the author of this article, Zucker is no longer associated with NBC Universal so hence is a former executive there.
