Jeremy Renner offered lead role in 'Bourne Legacy,' but not Jason Bourne

jeremy-renner-getty.jpgJeremy Renner, 40, has been offered the lead role in "The Bourne Legacy," the fourth film in the Bourne franchise, reports EW. But don't fear, Matt Damon fans - it's not a continuation of the Jason Bourne story. Renner will play a new character within the world of the movies.

The character Renner will take on is an agent from a different government organization that is even more dangerous than the one that was hunting Damon's Bourne throughout the first three movies. While Damon will not appear in the fourth installment, his character will still be "a presence," which we would imagine means he will be mentioned but not seen.

Renner is a two-time Oscar nominee - Best Actor for the 2009 picture "The Hurt Locker" and Best Supporting Actor for the 2010 film "The Town," which he made with Damon's old friend Ben Affleck. What do you think? Good choice to step into the franchise?

I am relieved that Renner is not taking over the role of Jason Bourne. Although Renner is an amazing actor, Damon is Jason Bourne and noone can take over that role.

I agree "BourneThisWay"... Matt Damon was the best as Jason Bourne. But as a Bourne lover, im quite excited to see where they go with this. Jeremy Renner is a great choice.
