Cam Newton joins Carolina Panthers. First pick of the NFL Draft
After many roadblocks and speculation as to where 2010 Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton would wind up (and whether than NFL lockout would be lifted), the Auburn University alum will now call Carolina home.The quarterback was chosen as the No. 1 draft pick on Thursday night (Apr. 28) by the NFL's Carolina Panthers. He is the 11th QB to be selected with the top pick out of the past 14 drafts.
"Everybody is not just going to stop and say, 'That's Cam, the No. 1 pick, and we can leave him alone," Newton said at Radio City Music Hall. "If anything, the floodgates have officially opened."
The 21-year-old speaks of his critics, as he faced his fair share of controversy over the past year. It was brought to light that his father, a former Dallas Cowboy, allegedly sought a significant amount of money from schools seeking his son's talents.
The NCAA eventually found that Cam had no knowledge of his father's actions and that Auburn had not paid the Newton family when he transferred there.
In addition to a landslide vote earning him the 2010 Heisman trophy, Newton also led his Tigers to the national championship over the Oregon Ducks in January.
Congratulations to Newton and we look forward to seeing him on the Charlotte, North Carolina field next year.

forgot to add after his 80 year rule as america's king & taking over & renaming the UK as newton island.
he will then become saint cam then replace Christianity as the church of cam & take over as the worlds new god & savior. afterward all war will end & happiness will reign & all the world will worship at the feet of the holy cam
lets hope that carolina either doesn't sign him to a contract or that contract doesn't guarantee him 8 figures
