Whoopi Goldberg's 1991 Oscar speech: Could you tell she was high?
How does an Oscar nominated actress relax before Hollywood's biggest night? If she's Whoopi Goldberg, she'll smoke a little pot.In this never before seen video circa 1992, the "Ghost" star admits to getting high just before accepting her Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in '91.
"Smoking cigarettes and pot every now and then are my habits and so I thought, 'I've got to relax,'" she says. "I smoked this wonderful joint that was the last of my homegrown, and honey, when he said my name and I popped up, I thought 'Oh, f***!'"
While Goldberg says that viewers couldn't tell that she was under the influence, there was at least one person who knew -- mommy dearest.
"My mother called me and said 'You smoked, didn't you?'" the actress admits.

I agree with Whoopi: you couldn't tell. Except that she was happy and sincere, instead of trying to pretend she wasn't.
She does start the video with a warning not to smoke pot before you might speak to 100 million people, and that's probably prudent advice.
Sad that she credited Patrick Swayze, he was looking better when he started smoking medical marijuana for his cancer.
