'The Smurfs' trailer: Katy Perry goes blonde... and blue

the-smurfs.jpg"The Smurfs" trailer is here, and we're immediately reminded of "Alvin and the Chipmunks."

That's not the worst thing that could happen, though. We were actually pleasantly surprised (like, really surprised) that we actually enjoyed the 2007 live-action-meets-animation family comedy. Maybe going in with low expectations is the key.

"The Smurfs" looks cute enough, and it certainly has a star studded cast. This is technically the second trailer for the flick, but it is the first time we get to see live actors Neil Patrick Harris, Hank Azaria and "Glee's" Jayma Mays, along with a bit of dialogue from the little blue guys.

The rest of the cast includes the vocal talents of Katy Perry, George Lopez, Alan Cumming, Jeff Foxworthy and even Wolfgang Puck as Chef Smurf.

The movie doesn't hit theaters until August, but watch the trailer below. We think it's pretty obvious which one is Mrs. Russell Brand.

Goodbye, Childhood. It was nice knowing you.

Looking at the trailer for this upcoming Smurfs Movie just leaves me a little bit disgusted. To take a great franchise like The Smurfs and turn it into this, is just a disgrace. I'm sure its going to be a major boom for the studio, their going to clean up on merchandising alone, but is it right. Kids nowadays might just think it stinks, but the people that remember the Smurfs I'm sure are going to be cringing the whole time

To compare this to Alvin and the Chipmunks is an insult! The Chipmunks have been around a lot longer than thease little buggers. I hope all you pompus no talent critics suffer from terminal indigestion when Chipwrecked is released in December. P.S. Smurf you!

Horrible, horrible, horrible!
I guess they'll come out with a sequel and have it take place in LA.
Garbage!

Thanks for ruining my fond memories of these characters. And to Phantanos, both the Smurfs and Alvin and the Chipmunks were created in the same year - 1958.

Peyo, Hanna-Barbera, Paul Winchel, and Fred Travalena are all spinning in there graves.

nice to see something from my childhood getting a hollywood make-over

The differece with Alvin and it's Squeakquel is: That their owners are still in charge.Peyo sadly is gone and has no say what they do! P.S. Ick. I was referring to their films, not their origins!
