Report: Jennifer Lawrence lands Katniss in 'The Hunger Games'
Peeta, where are you? That's the next step for the producers of the much-anticipated movie, "The Hunger Games," based on the bestselling YA novel by Suzanne Collins, because it seems as if they've found their Katniss Everdeen: Jennifer Lawrence.
According to GossipCop.com and other reports, the Oscar-nominated actress has gone from the reported front-runner for the film's lead role to actually being cast as the female tribute from District 12 who goes on to become more than she had ever dreamed for herself.
At 20 years old, "The Winter's Bone" star is four years older than the character, but that's not strange in Hollywood and she can definitely carry off younger. Plus, her age will make fan favorite for Peeta, "Weeds" actor Hunter Parrish, feel a lot more comfortable playing the part should he be chosen. The actress beat out fellow Oscar nominee "True Grit's" Hailee Steinfeld and "Little Miss Sunshine's" Abigail Breslin in a field that included more than 50 actresses who auditioned for the part.
Collins and Billy Ray ("Breach," "State of Play") are co-writing the screenplay with Gary Ross ("Pleasantville") directing.
Lawrence can add "The Hunger Games" to upcoming roles in the Mel Gibson film, "The Beaver," and her role as young Mystique in "X-Men" First Class," which will be released in June.
Was she your No. 1 choice? Are you glad to get that over with, so we can obsess over who lands Peeta and the other roles?
