President Obama's NCAA March Madness 'Barack-etology' goes mostly chalk
President Obama fills out an NCAA March Madness basketball tournament bracket every year - because he's young and hip, you see. We kid - the Prez loves basketball and we think it's fun he fills out a bracket. Before getting to his picks, he says that this is a tradition he loves, but trumpets www.usaid.gov, where you can donate to various charities that will help the people of Japan.
Let's check out what his picks look like for the 2011 tourney.
In the Final Four, the commander-in-chief has all four no. 1 seeds (Ohio St., Duke, Pitt and Kansas) advancing. His finals have the Kansas Jayhawks (again!) defeating the Ohio St. Buckeyes. The Prez is 1-1 in choosing the national champion. He was right two years ago when he picked North Carolina, but last year he had Kansas and Duke took the crown.
Going out a little farther in the field, President Obama has as his Sweet Sixteen: Kansas, Louisville, Purdue, Notre Dame, Ohio St, Kentucky, Syracuse, UNC, Duke, Arizona, UConn, SDST, Pitt, Kansas St., BYU and Florida. He is almost chalk (advacing the top four seeds from each region), but has no. 5 seeds Arizona and Kansas St. taking down no. 4 seeds Texas and Wisconsin.
In the Elite Eight, he sticks mostly with his chalk strategy, but does have no. 3 seed UConn defeating SDST and no. 3 seed Purdue taking down Notre Dame. He also hilariously says that Pittsburgh got the weakest region (and we agree!).
His bracket is pictured below and you can see the entire thing at ESPN's Tournament Challenge page. What do you think of the President's bracket? He'll choose his women's NCAA bracket on Friday.
