Laura Vikmanis: NFL's oldest cheerleader the subject of 'Blind Side'-esque movie

New Line may have picked up the rights to a new cheerleading story, but it will certainly be a far cry from the likes of "Bring it On" and its several (unnecessary) sequels.

Laura Vikmanis, the 42-year-old Ben-Gal who currently holds the record as the NFL's oldest cheerleader, will be the subject of a new big-screen project according to The Hollywood Reporter. Don't expect just a fluffy comedy about blonde cheerleaders though, as the story is being compared to Sandra Bullock's "The Blind Side."

Co-writers Kathy Greenberg and Emily Cook explain that while there will be some humor in the story, it will definitely hold more substance.

"It's really a feel good populist story in the vein of 'Blind Side,'" Greenberg says. "It's got more comedy to be sure, but it's an earnest story."

The film will document Vickmanis' trials and tribulations after being left by her husband and opting to try out for the Cincinnati Bengals cheerleading squad at age 39. Initially, the mother of two didn't make the cut, but after a year of hard work she returned to tryouts and landed herself a spot on the squad.

Vickmanis serves as an inspiration to not only her children, but to her fellow cheerleaders -- Many of whom are 20 years younger.

"In her real life, it was easy to find a way into the story," Cook says. "She is a 42-year-old in a sea of 20-year-olds; she's definitely a fish out of water. It's a great contrast. And she proved you can reinvent yourself at any age."
