Jennifer Garner to play a young Miss Marple for Disney

Jennifer Garner is going back to solving mysteries -- this time as quintessential British busybody, Miss Marple, according to Deadline. Jane Marple, of course, being the officious elderly spinster created by Agatha Christie who solves crimes in between gardening and gossip, usually in her quaint English village of St. Mary Mead.But, fear not, Garner will not be required to age herself for the role ala "Nanny McPhee." Instead, the new movies will chronicle a younger Jane Marple in her '30s or '40s. A Marple who is totally hot, yet still ends up a spinster?
Will a younger Marple play? Part of the charm of the character is that a woman who is usually dismissed as a feeble-minded spinster is actually hiding a razor sharp intelligence and taking in every detail while seemingly fussing over tea cozies and scones.
The BBC did a smashing job of re-working Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "Sherlock Holmes" into an updated miniseries last year, setting the action in current-day London with Watson a veteran of the war in Afghanistan and Holmes a high-functioning, benevolent sociopath. It totally worked, but it was also totally edgy.
Disney is behind all the "Miss Marple" fuss. So will Christie's prim spinster be re-geared as a kid-friendly franchise or will it remain true to the spirit -- if not the letter -- of the books?

WOW - That's interesting. Wondering how a younger Miss Marple could work - guess anyone could, really, but still curious. Will definitely watch that show.
Oh, my... Will Ms. Garner adopt a British accent for this..? Curious how the Brits can adopt an American accent with such ease - didn't even know Jamie Bamber of BSG is British, until I watched Law & Order UK. And Vivien Leigh in GWTW - great Southern accent - amazing - even in days past already. Yet, Americans have a tougher time adopting to British accents - Sanctuary's Amanda Tapping doesn't even sound properly British. Wonder why that is...
I wonder if we have Murder She Wrote to blame for the decision to kiddify Miss Marple? The ignorant masses might have dismissed a properly aged Marple (played by Judi Dench, of course) as being a rip-off of Jessica Fletcher...
Everything about this sounds horrible. Let's take one of the few kick-*** older characters and make her young and hip! Hollywood at its worst, right here.

As a true Agatha Christie fan, I think it is super that Jennifer Garner will play a younger "Miss Marple." So many avenues can be opened up for a younger character! I am very excited and I certainly intend to watch the movie! And I don't think Disney could have chosen anyone better for the character than Jennifer Garner!!

I like Jennifer Garner a lot. But this project sounds so wrong. Will she use her Alias kicks? Hollywood is running out of ideas, now it's only reboots, sequels, prequels...
