'The Celebrity Apprentice's' NeNe Leakes on hurtful press: 'I have very thick skin'
When you watch Sunday's (March 6) premiere of "The Celebrity Apprentice," you'll meet a much kinder, gentler NeNe Leakes from the one we just saw on "The Real Housewives of Atlanta." Of course, we're not sure how long that lasts. We all know that she and former "The View" co-host, Star Jones, leave this season on a decidedly bad note.
We fully expect that Leakes' stint on the NBC show will continue to generate press for the real housewife and the media (us included, we have to admit) can be mean. So, we asked Leakes how she feels about her bad press.
"Some of the press is hurtful, because I'm a human like anybody else," Leakes tells Zap2it. "So, some of it is hurtful. And some of it, when I know it's a flat out lie, I'm like whatever, it doesn't really matter. But, some of the press is hurtful and I do read some of it, sometimes."
Without making excuses, the housewife tells us, she says that a lot of what's captured of her on reality shows is just part of the story.
"Obviously, if the cameras are with you everyday, you're bound to have a bad day," she says. "Your period is bound to come on, you're about to have a headache, you don't feel good today. I mean you're not a happy-go-lucky person every day of your life. You're going to have a bad day somewhere in there."
And during her three-season reality show tenure on Bravo, NeNe says she has learned a lot about people and herself.
"Being on the show, I've learned that people are very judgmental, very, very judgmental," she says. "And I've learned also that I have very thick skin. I've learned that I'm a really strong woman. I have really gone through some things and really come out on top. So, I am a strong woman. At the end of the day, when I go home I sleep very well."
"The Celebrity Apprentice" premieres Sunday, March 6 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.

Jean, you are worst than Nene. Stop comparing humans to dogs. Dogs are much more superior beings compared to humans. Being a dog is a compliment, being a human is a great insult. Dog teaches man humanity, remember that.

Ugly inside and out. The fact that she is so reactive shows how thin skinned she actually is. Disturbing how her bullying and racism would have gotten anybody else fired.
I find it strange that Celebrity Apprentice came on after a NBC special on bullying. Richard hatch bullies David Cassidy (including physical violence which he could be arrested for), and Hatch is rewarded.
David Cassidy handling of the situation proves that he is more of a man than Richard Hatch will ever be. BTW wasn’t Hatch in trouble for abusing his child too!
