'The Hunger Games': 'True Grit's' Hailee Steinfeld confirms she's in the running

hunger-games-Hailee-Steinfeld-in-running-for-katniss-getty.jpgAt last nights Oscars, "True Grit" star and Oscar-nominee, Hailee Steinfeld, wasn't just amazing the media and fans by looking like the perfect Hollywood starlet, she was also dropping hints that she's definitely in the running for "The Hunger Games."

When MTV News interviewed Steinfeld on the red carpet, it asked her for an update on her possible starring role in the much-anticipated film based on the best-selling YA book.

"I met with [the film's director] Gary Ross," she says. "And yeah, it's definitely something we're taking one day at a time and making sure that everything is in place and everything's ready."

Doesn't she sound like she's definitely on the verge of making a deal? And as far as everything being ready, the film is supposedly set to start shooting very soon now.

On the other hand, it sounds like she has a lot of Hollywood suitors right now. When MTV asked her to confirm that there's a good chance she's playing Katniss, Steinfeld replied, "Yeah, there's a lot of projects that we're looking at at the moment."

She's good.

In December, Ross told EW he didn't have any stars in mind for the role at that time and said that it could very well be an unknown actress. He did describe what he's looking for, though.

"I don't think [beauty] is the main criterion for Katniss," he says. "What makes Katniss attractive is her strength and her assuredness and her defiance and ultimately her compassion. And I don't mean just physical strength. I mean a real strength as a human being. She knows her own truth. She feels deeply and fiercely. And this is something that the actress has to bring with her."

I still think that Emma Watson would be awesome

YES YES YES!!
Best candidate yet! I love Lyndsy Fonseca, but she's too old for the part.
Give Hailee that role, Gary! You know it's the right thing to do!

Please Hailee accept the role

You all are nuts! She is too young!
