Rufus Wainwright, Jörn Weisbrodt & Leonard Cohen's daughter, Lorca, have a baby

The world may have its first member of Canadian singer-songwriter royalty. Rufus Wainwright is now the proud father of a baby girl -- and on her mother's side, she boasts Leonard Cohen as a grandfather.

Wainwright announced the news, and unconventional parenting arrangement, on his website on Feb. 21: "Darling daughter Viva Katherine Wainwright Cohen was born on February 2, 2011 in Los Angeles, California to proud parents Lorca Cohen, Rufus Wainwright and Deputy Dad Jorn Weisbrodt. The little angel is evidently healthy, presumably happy and certainly very very beautiful."

Weisbrodt being Wainwright's fiance, many initial reports had the baby as their own and Lorca Cohen (Leonard's daughter) as a surrogate. Not so. Wainwright issued a follow-up statement to clarify everyone's parental status.

"She did not carry the child for someone else," writes camp Wainwright. "Lorca Cohen is the mother of the baby and Rufus Wainwright is the father."

What this means is that they are going to have one very artsy baby. Wainwright, the son of folk legend Loudon Wainwright III and late singer Kate McGarrigle, has been a prolific musician for well over a decade. And Lorca Cohen is the daughter of famed songwriter Leonard and artist Suzanne Elrod.

Congratulations to all parties involved. And expect to hear news of Viva Katherine Wainwright Cohen's debut album sometime around 2028.
