Oscars 2011: Corey Haim absent from In Memoriam reel yet again
After Corey Haim was left out of the SAG Awards' In Memoriam reel back in January, we had expected "The Lost Boys" actor to make the cut at this year's Academy Awards. We were mistaken.
Haim, who passed away in March 2010, was left out of the same segment in the 2011 Oscars. We watched intently during the In Memoriam segment of the show to see if Haim's face would appear while Celine Dion sang "Smile," and felt a tinge of disappointment when the song came to an end with no sign of Haim.
After the SAG omission, long-time friend and co-star Corey Feldman had told The Hollywood Reporter that he hoped to see his pal honored by the Academy.
"We have become used to not being honored by our peers in the industry," he said in a statement. "I have faith that the Academy will make a wiser choice."
A representative from SAG told Zap2it that Haim's absence from the reel was unintentional, but a circumstance of time.
"We had two memorial packages, a longer version and a shorter version," Kathy Connell explained. "He was in the longer version and unfortunately the show was running long. We had to use the shorter package which did not include Mr. Haim."
No word on whether the Academy plans to use the same excuse, but we are pretty certain this wasn't simply an accident.

Also missing were actors Harold Gould, Kenneth Mars, Peter Graves and Barbara Billingsley. Shameful omissions.
They also neglected to mention Maury Chaykin, star of somewhere around 94 films, Kenneth Mars, and Betty Garrett.
And if they want to complain about time constraints, we really didn't need to see Ms Dion quite so much during the montage.
Some years ago, I was heart sick to find out that getting a star on the Walk of Fame was not really and honor and an award, but a purchased piece of real estate.
After last years snub of Farrah Fawcett and others, but a big long mention for Michael Jackson, I realized the Academy has decided to do the same thing regarding the In Memorium during the Oscars.
