New 'Superman' Henry Cavill takes the cover of EW, talks putting on the suit

ew-henry-cavill.jpgIt's a bird! It's a plane! It's new "Superman" Henry Cavill already on the cover of Entertainment Weekly!

Well, that was fast. It was announced less than a month ago that "Tudors'" star Cavill would be donning the iconic cape in a reboot of the Superman franchise. Now in his first interview since being cast as the Man of Steel, Cavill talks about his audition, which included a screen test wearing a replica of Christopher Reeve's Superman suit. No pressure or anything.

Cavill was nervous because he had just finished "The Cold Light of Day," a film which required him to shed all the muscle tone he had put on for a previous part. (Sounds like Christian Bale before his Batman audition, no?)

He recalls his reaction when he was putting on the suit (with the hep of an assistant): "All I could think was, 'Oh, god. They're going to look at me and go 'He's not Superman. Not a chance.' The actor inside me was going, 'You're not ready! You're not ready!'"

Director Zack Snyder obviously didn't agree. "If you can put on that suit and pull it off, that's an awesome achievement," he says. "He walked out and no one laughed. Other actors put that suit on, and it's a joke, even if they're great actors. Henry put it on and he exuded this kind of crazy-calm confidence that just made me go, 'Wow.' Okay, this was Superman."

Lame. Lame. LAME.

I can't believe how badly they biffed this casting.

This guy does not even look close to being Superman material. This is a classic case of bad casting and Hollywood wanting to just hurry up and throw something out there. Christopher Reeve was the only true Superman and his portrayal of the Man of Steel will never be surpassed by any actor.

He's bad azz. He is going to be the best superman ever. Trust me!!!

I'd hit it.

Queer Eye for the Super Guy!

"Christopher Reeve was the only true Superman and his portrayal of the Man of Steel will never be surpassed by any actor". Couldn't agree with you more Larry! It doesn't really matter who plays Superman anymore as long as the script is good. Both Batman Begins and the Dark Knight had great scripts even though Bale's performance of Batman was kind of annoying to me. I thought Brandon Routh was great in SR but the storyline was dull and boring.

Don't get me wrong though, Christian Bale is a great actor, not to familiar with Henry Cavill's work though, but will be soon. With a great storyline, throw in some good actors...I have hope for the new Superman.

I'm not sure about this new guy being Superman, I cannot really judge on this guy "Henry Cavill" although I will stand firm that the only true Superman is Christopher Reeve, no one will replace him as Superman, no matter how many actor's portrayed Superman, I do agree Brandon Roth had done rally well in SR, but the storyline really suck. I was hoping I would be in the new one or Tom Welling from( Smallville). It gets me that Hollywood takes a British actor to be Superman, Isn't Superman suppose to be an American? Like anything else in this world, we are letting Our American Icons go to other countries, Instead of thinking things through, they rush into things. I just hope the storyline is alot better, getting tired of Lex luthor being the Villian, Doomsday or Braniac, NEW STORYLINE, PERIOD. I guess we see how well this new movie will do, I'm going to laugh if this New Superman flops big time. Frankly I though Superman is alot muscular than this actor is, But we will see then.

a british man playing the man of steel....come on guys...lets keep something american, we done lost the beer market....shhheeessh!
