Natalie Munroe: The real life Sue Sylvester? We compare their greatest insults

sue-natalie.jpgPennsylvania high school teacher Natalie Munroe was suspended without pay after her school found out she was writing blog posts about her students for her friends and family to read. The 30-year-old teacher showed no remorse when she appeared on "Good Morning America," saying, "I don't think I did anything wrong."

Sounds like someone has been watching too much "Glee" because Munroe is basically the real-life version of cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester. The one difference? Munroe lashes out with words, while Sue hurts kids with words and physical violence. One thing they do have in common? They also pick on their fellow faculty members and school administrators. Three cheers for equal opportunity bullying!

We decided to compare their greatest digs and see who wins the title of Meanest Schoolteacher Ever. Let the games begin!

Natalie Munroe's greatest hits:

"A complete and utter jerk in all ways."

"Although academically okay, your child has no other redeeming qualities."

"I hear the trash company is hiring."

"I didn't realize one person could have this many problems."

"There's no other way to say this, I hate your kid."

In her posts, she called students, "out of contol," "rude, lazy, disengaged whiners," "rat-like," "dresses like a streetwalker," and "frightfully dim."

Sue Sylvester's greatest hits:

"So you like show tunes. It doesn't mean you're gay. It just means you're awful."

"I'm gonna make it a habit to not stop and talk to students because this has been a colossal waste of my time."

"I'm going to ask you to smell your armpits. That's the smell of failure, and it's stinking up my office."

"
All I want is just one day a year when I'm not visually assaulted by uglies and fatties.."

"High school's a dry run for the rest of your life. Not everyone can be champions; not everyone should be champions. The world needs fry cooks; bus drivers."

"You may be two of the stupidest teens I've ever encountered - and that's saying something. I once taught a cheerleading seminar to Sarah Palin."

"
Do they go to college? I don't know. I don't care. Should they learn Spanish? Sure, if they wanna become dishwashers and gardeners."

You know, I don't like the way she said it, but there's truth in Natalie Munroe's diatribe against students. Pew Research actually did a study that showed students of the current generation lack work ethic. I agree that it's part of Munroe's job to instill work ethic values, but she also needs to the tools to do that. Eric Chester has some great advice on this at www.EricChester.com

Wow, has Natalie Munroe looked in the mirror? You don't get that large without being lazy yourself.

This just-published teacher's journal shows a bit different look at what happens in the schoolhouse ... this time in the classroom of kids with learning disabilities and a teacher who loves his work. It's hilarious, heartwarming ... simply mesmerizing.

To buffybot - the lady is 8 & 1/2 months pregnant - obviously you didn't do YOUR homework!

You are right, I don't do homework. However, I do know that she is normally heavy unless she is giving birth to twins.

To buffybot....evidently you don't know a thing about pregnancy....my mother was a slender 130 lbs when she got pregnant, but gained 66 lbs during pregnancy....with only one child! It happens!!Plus...the issue isn't about Munroe's size....it's about the lack of motivation among today's teens...your comments are stereotypical, juvenile, and unnecessary!

Neither students nor parents want to take responsibility. yes, teachers should really be called "leaders to learning", but that assumes that parents want the best for their children. All they really want is to do their own thing without the parental responsibility.

The difference between this lady and Sue are that Sue is completely fictional and Munroe is talking about real people -- real children. Did she really think people wouldn't put two and two together?

It doesn't matter weather what she wrote is true or not. She is an educator, and her job is not to tear those kids down (in a public forum, no less), but to build them up and give them the skills they need for life after school.

The article at GMA said her lawyer called it "like a personal diary." If it were like that, then it wouldn't be public. She put it on a blog, and once it's out there, it's out there. That's terrible comparison.

She said it was "not for mass consumption," but it was a public blog. She can't pick and choose who sees it, regardless of her intent.

She still wants to teach, but I wouldn't want to be one of her students, wondering if she was going to talk about me not just in the halls of the school, but on the internet for anyone to see.

Obviously Sue, but only because she has writers...

For those of you bagging on Natalie Munroe for her weight -- knock it off. She may be heavy, but she's preggers!

And seriously, what if she IS fat? That doesn't mean that her students AREN'T whiny, entitled, arrogant jerks!

Munroe wasn't attacking individual students by name. She was just calling it like she sees it in a forum protected by the First Amendment.

There is no harm in blowing off steam; there IS possible harm in allowing immoral and ill-prepared people loose into the world, expecting to do whatever they want, whenever they want.

Munroe is sounding an alarm -- schools, parents, and society are failing our kids. We're raising people who are unprepared to work hard and be successful. Her arrogant little turkeyburgers may be her problem today, but we're going to encounter them in the public sector as employees, customers, neighbors, college classmates and citizens soon enough.

I think Munroe should be given a raise, and her district, her students and their parents should be given a wake-up call.
