Mark Wahlberg's Marky Mark moment at the 2011 Oscar Awards

oscars-marky-mark.jpgRemember when Mark Wahlberg used to get all bitter when people (read: Eminem) referred to him as "Marky Mark"? Looks like he's over it.

After Wahlberg quit New Kids On the Block (yes, he was the original Joey McIntyre), he formed Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. Their first hit, "Good Vibrations," broke in 1991. Wahlberg shot to fame after appearing in a Calvin Klein marketing campaign wearing nothing but briefs and showing off an impressive six-pack.

He's worked hard in the film industry to dissociate himself from that image, but Wahlberg was happy to have a laugh at his own expense on Sunday night at the 83rd annual Academy Awards. Host James Franco pointed out his grandmother in the audience, and she stood up and crowed, "I just saw Marky Mark!" happily.

"It's Mark Wahlberg now," Franco warned her, but Wahlberg was already laughing and making moves to pull up his shirt and show the world what those abs look like 20 years later.

what is John Cena doing singing?

Carina, DO SOME RESEARCH (Wikipedia is free)!!!! Donnie Wahlberg (Mark's older brother and now appearing in Blue Bloods on CBS) was a member of New Kids on the Block. NOT Mark. Mark was the lead for Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.

herkxena, maybe you should do your own research. Mark, along with Donnie, was an original member of NKOTB, but he quit the group before they became really popular. Since you probably won't believe me either, this line is copied from Mark Wahlberg's page on Wikipedia.

"Wahlberg first came to fame as the younger brother of Donnie Wahlberg of the successful 1980s and 1990s boy band New Kids on the Block. Mark, at age thirteen, had been one of the group's original members, along with Donnie, Danny Wood, Jordan Knight, and Jonathan Knight."
