Grammys 2011: Lady Gaga claims Whitney Houston inspiration for 'Born This Way'?
Somewhere a crack pipe fell over when Whitney Houston's name was mentioned on the Grammys. Amid very convincing comparisons of Lady Gaga's new single, "Born This Way," to Madonna's "Express Yourself," the pop singer announced that she wrote the song with, wait for it, Whitney Houston in mind? Um, okay.
The Gaga had several choices in that moment when it came to the Madonna copycat controversy. First, she could have just delivered her acceptance speech and ignored the comparisons altogether. Second, she could have taken the opportunity to give Madonna some credit for making that beat so darn danceable more than two decades after it was released. And third, she could, well, give someone else credit in a move to make herself that much more of an enigma...
Don't get us wrong. In her time, Houston could definitely sing and in her first several years she made some huge pop hits, but we don't hear her in "Born This Way" at all. We do hear Madonna, though - loud and clear.

she is one hell of a gaga! how smart it is to disregard madonna with all the buzz sorrounding her new single? she's basically laughing out loud in her own room while you people are acting so stupid and dumb in making a big fuss over her new single. this girl is so damn smart in fanning the flames of her fame!
I don't think she did it to be an enigma, or because Houston was really her inspiration. I think she was attempting to cover for what was so obvious, and chose a singer who would be different enough from her to avoid any further copycat accusations. Not that it matters. Haven't these pop stars been copying Madonna for decades now?

No, she came up with the Whitney line since Elton John adopted Leon Russell as a salvage case. This is her me-too effort to show how warm and deep she is (isn't?).
I can totally see Born this Way as a Whitney song. I definitely don't think it sounds like Express Yourself the way everone says it does. If anything, I hear a little bit of everything 90's. TLC's "Water Falls" in the beginning, followed by Whitney's "It's not Right but it's OK" followed by the Madonna's "Vogue" rap. Either way, GaGa's song is very catchy.
Madonna cant sing like Whitney Houston or gaga so I understand why Lady gaga said she thought of Whitney Houston she is like the best singer ever, and you guys really need to let it go it seems like the media really discriminates toward artist of color i mean Elvis was an addict and a drunk, and Marilyn was a ***** no one says a thing.
