Google logo: '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea' author Jules Verne's 183rd birthday

Jules Verne, French author best known for his futuristic adventure tales, would be turning 183 years young if he were alive Feb. 8, 2011 and the Google doodle has decided to celebrate. The logo has turned into the portholes of a submarine, an homage to Verne's classic "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." You can even move the controller around on the far right.Along with "20,000 Leagues," Verne was also famous for "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and "Around the World in 80 Days" and is often referred to as one of the "Fathers of Science Fiction" with Hugo Gernsback ("Amazing Stories) and H.G. Wells ("The Time Machine," "War of the Worlds," "The Invisible Man").
We always enjoyed the Verne references in "Back to the Future III," wherein Doc Brown and Clara are both fans of his writings and eventually name their sons Jules and Verne.

Though Nancy Reagan was probably the worst First Lady ever, with her wasting taxpayers' money to buy 2,000 new china place settings for the White house when the nation was in such a depression, taking expensive helicopter rides to Camp David to prepare for the weekend, nearly every weekend, then flying back to DC so that she could then fly back to Camp David with Ronnie - that was a HUGE expense to the tax payers; She was ditzy, never raked over the coals for their "Hollywood" connections and lifestyle as republicans later did to President Clinton, and her famous allegedly stealing designer dresses that were alleged to have been loaned to her, not given, as she claimed, plus a host of other reasons.
