Farmers Field: LA football stadium officially named, does not bode well for potential mascots
Bringing the NFL to Los Angeles has been on people's minds for a while now, and the proposed football stadium for the city has been officially named.Unfortunately, that name is "Farmers Field."
AEG, the company behind the famed Staples Center (home of the Lakers) announced on Tuesday (Feb. 1) that Farmers Insurance has signed a 30-year deal for naming rights of the 1.7 million dollar square foot stadium. The new stadium will house sporting and entertainment events in downtown LA.
AEG President Timothy J. Leiweke says of the deal, "This groundbreaking agreement with Farmers not only makes this the largest long-term commitment in naming rights history, it also signals the most significant step forward in creating the football stadium and event center and bringing an NFL team back to Los Angeles."
We're all for an LA football team, so we should really be thanking Farmers for putting up the money and getting us one step closer to the goal. But really, Farmers Field?
This does not bode well for a potential team mascot. We aren't really looking forward to cheering on Ole McDonald, but we will make the best of it.

They might as well call it "Vikings Stadium" And I say that as a life long Vikings fan... but the writing is on the wall here in Minnesota... the Vikes are going to skip town the first chance they get.
Being from LA, I can say that LA will NEVER get a NFL Football team. I hate it whenever stories like this come out and get our hopes up.
