Diana Ross on Oprah: Family, an old friend, and fabulousness

Diana Ross made her much-anticipated appearance on Friday's (Feb. 25) episode of "The Oprah Show" and brought the house down. And in true final season flavor, Oprah Winfrey took it up a notch with all of Ross' kids joining, a reunion, some tearful confessions and a performance showing Miss Ross is still quite the entertainer.

Ross brought all five of her kids, including "Girlfriends" star, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Evan Ross, who's currently starring on The CW's "90210." And for the first time ever on TV, she brought along her first grandson, Raif Henok Emmanuel Kendrick, who was born in 2009.

Oprah shared how much Diana meant to her when at 10 years old she saw The Supremes perform on "The Ed Sullivan Show" in 1964. Through tears, Oprah said that seeing African American women on television literally changed her life. Probably one of the more touching confessions by Ross was when Oprah asked her when she had felt she had "made it."

"Never," Ross answered. "I've never been that confident."

Other highlights for us? Oprah reunited Ross with Billy Dee Williams, her costar from "Lady Sings The Blues," for which Ross was nominated for an Oscar. And of course, it was a big thrill for us when Miss Ross took the stage and sang "Ain't No Mountain High Enough." She still has it, doesn't she?

And according to the diva, when she doesn't have it, she'll stop performing. "If my voice changed," she says. "If I couldn't sound like myself, I wouldn't want to perform."

I missed the first 15 minutes of the interview but with regards to the part of the interview I did see, I was surprised there was no mention of her good friend Michael Jackson. I am wondering if one of her stipulations to appear is that Michael not be a topic of conversation but I did enjoy the interview otherwise.

I loved it and thouvht she looked great at her age!

Diana is still a class act. She has certainly aged well. There's a lot of history and achievement there.

Nice job, Diana. And Oprah.

DId we watch the same show? I didnt see that Diana still had it. She barely sang "ANMHE". I heard more of the backup vocals or backtrap.

I too wish she woulda commented on Michael.

NO mention of her alcoholism either.

Plus, I really dobt Diana was sleeping on an air mattress.

We know about O's real hair, what about Diana's?

Her kids all seem very normal & repsectable.

here is only one DIANA ROSS. FIfty years of worldwide superstardom......

Just for your information likunta (or whatever your name is), this was a 2 hour taped show, edited down to 48 minutes. Why so negative? If Diana's drinking, MJ were mentioned, they COULD have been edited out. And why would anyone lie about Diana sleeping on an air matress? There's ALWAYS one in the group.

Really enjoyed the show. If you judge the parents by the kids she's done well. Her oldest daughter used to play a cop on the soap 'Another World', and she was a really strong actress. Wonder if she's out of the biz.
Diana did performace art long before Gaga, she was both the performance and the art with her carefully designed costumes. Really good to see her and Billy D. again!

the one and only miss diana ross is a class act,the greatest female entertainer of all time, she is the supreme diva who started it all and she did it all with class and style, shell always have the haters because of what she has acheived it goes with the territory, but in true miss ross style she rises above it all,a real icon and real legend and i do mean legend, not like the five second cheap celebrities weve got today,i love you miss ross.

I loved the show and loved she brought the kids, I know that the oldest daughter is now in real estate. I was hoping for a comment about michael too but maybe its too painful for her to talk about and it might have required more time. Besides the show was positive and uplifting and great anyway. Nice to see Diana again. She is a reminder that this new generation of entertainers just can't quite measure up to her (and others) type of talent and this is coming from a young person yet old enough to remember her performing in Central Park.
