Box Office: Justin Bieber's 'Never Say Never' wins Friday with $12.4 million

justin-bieber-never-say-never-blue.jpgAt least on Friday, Justin Bieber's "Never Say Never" biopic beat the Adam Sandler-Jennifer Aniston rom-com "Just Go With It." "Never" opened at $12.4 million, while "Just Go" took in $9.7 million. Both movies are on pace to earn more than $30 million for their opening weekend.

To contrast Bieber with the Miley Cyrus "Hannah Montana" movie of 2008, the Hollywood Reporter says Miley's movie opened with $8.7 million on its first Friday on the way to a $31.1 million weekend take.

Animated movie "Gnomeo & Juliet" took third with $6.1 million, Channing Tatum's epic "The Eagle" earned $2.8 million and coming in fifth was the only holdover movie in the top 5, "The Roommate" at $2.6 million, putting its total gross at $20.3 so far.

that it? wow ... as much hype as this movie received.. i was expecting more

Isn't in 3D, too, which makes ticket prices higher?

Sure to make more w/sat & sun daytime tix

How can movie box office rankings mean anything? It costs a lot more to go to a movie today than it did a couple years ago, so naturally the box office take is going to be higher. I have never understood this. How about counting number of tickets sold instead of $$$ brought in.

Jack, the world runs on money. That's what the studios are interested in. But, as a film buff, I also find myself much more interested in number of tickets sold. Box Office Mojo is pretty good at putting things in perspective.

Come, Miley/Hannah movie was only on 683 theatres and Justin is on more that 3000! of course more people are going to see Justin Biever movie!

First, I'm hearing that Never Say Never's "friday" take includes money from his wednesday previews. Which is lame if it ends up affecting the standings for the weekend, or for the record.

Second, Miley's opening reflects absolutely packed theaters after the kids got off from school. I've heard many stories of people showing up to find seats only in the front row.
