Ashlee Simpson files for divorce from Pete Wentz

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Pete Wentz are divorcing after two and a half years of marriage.

Simpson, 26, filed divorce papers on Wednesday (Feb. 9), TMZ reports, citing irreconcilable differences. She's also seeking primary physical custody of their 2-year-old son, Bronx, and spousal support. She's also looking to drop the "-Wentz" from her name.

"After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to file for divorce," the couple says in a statement. "We remain friends and deeply committed and loving parents to our son Bronx, whose happiness and well-being remains our number one priority. We ask that everyone honor our privacy as we navigate this next phase of our lives."

Simpson and Wentz, 31, the bassist and lyricist for emo band Fall Out Boy, were first rumored to be a couple in 2006. They played coy with the media for a while but announced their engagement in April 2008. They married a month later, and Bronx was born in November 2008.
