Aretha Franklin responds to Fantasia Barrino's Grammy boycott: She's 'still young'

fantasia.jpgThe queen has spoken.

The Aretha Franklin tribute at this year's Grammy Awards featured some big (and not-so-big) voices, including Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson and Florence Welch. Not so noticeably absent from the lineup was "American Idol" alum Fantasia Barrino.

Barrino later announced that she had boycotted the Grammys because she felt that "[she] should have been on that stage."

Boo-hoo. She actually got so caught up in her boycotting, that she missed her very first Grammy win after 11 nominations. Karma, right?

Franklin is speaking out on Barrino's decision and as always, the queen remains diplomatic.

In a statement to USA Today, she writes:

"I was sorry to hear that Fantasia was upset because she did not get the opportunity to participate in my Grammy Tribute this year. I recall in the past, Fantasia participated in both my MusicCares Person of the Year Tribute and my United Negro College Fund Tribute. Fantasia is still young in the business and although we all love and appreciate her she must understand that in this business of show business she will not always get to participate in everything she would like [to] participated in. I'm sure it was not an intentional omission. I will see Fantasia over the summer here in Detroit."

So wipe away those tears, Fantasia -- Aretha still loves you.

Sorry Fantasia but you have no 'star power.' Not everyone is a fan of yours...me included. The music charts prove you're not. Now that this has hit the media there'll be an asterick by your name.....one that depicts whiners.

I'm going to e-mail the person over this article. Fantasia did not make a boycott. She just decided not to go.

Jennifer Hudson blows Fantasia away.

@hope -- don't get caught up in semantics. Whatever you care to call it, she stayed home because she wasn't asked to perform in the tribute and that's the bottom line. Would you prefer if it was referred to as a "snit"?

Me thinks Aretha will give her a talking to when they're one on one.

Fantasia's tribute to Aretha and Patty LaBelle on YouTube (non Grammy) is a testament to her talent. She's awesome on stage, but a train wreck off stage. Sad to see this young lady meltdown. I still think she's amazing.

the grammys did her wrong bottom line they didnt even televise the R&B and RAP category that was a slap in the face why go when no one can see and if anybodys acting like a diva its aretha

Fantasia is all about Fantasia. She's a mess. She needs to fix her other problems, then concentrate on her music. Don't really care for her anyway. Hudson would blow her away.

fantasia you are awesome so don't worry what people have to say, know that God has your back keep doing what you are doing....Bless you.

Fantasia you are no train-wreck; everyone makes mistakes, we just have to learn from them. You are an awesome singer, as a matter of fact one of the best soul singer out there, if not the best. What I like about you girl is that you can perform your butt off, you put your heart and soul in your music. Remember Fantasia, there are a lot of haters out there and you are not going to be loved by everyone. So stay true to yourself, learn from your mistakes and remember, God loves you!
