SAG explains Corey Haim's absence from awards' In Memoriam reel

corey-haim-horiz-gi.jpgFormer teen icon Corey Haim tragically passed away in March 2010, but his presence was noticeably absent during Sunday's (Jan. 30) Screen Actors Guild Awards In Memoriam segment.

Haim, who starred in "The Lost Boys" was just 38-years-old when he reportedly overdosed on prescription pills. It has also been reported, however, that the actor suffered from Pneumonia at the time of death.

Kathy Connell, producer of the 2011 SAG Awards, tells Zap2It that it is one of the "hardest decisions" to have to choose who will be included in the In Memoriam reel each year.

"To be honest, he was [included]," she explains. "We had two memorial packages, a longer version and a shorter version. He was in the longer version and unfortunately the show was running long. We had to use the shorter package which did not include Mr. Haim."

She continues, "We were very sad to be forced to use the shorter package."

Friend and former co-star Corey Feldman says that he was not surprised by the SAG omission, telling The Hollywood Reporter "We have become used to not being honored by our peers in the industry."

thats messed up

Honoring this man was so less important than the self-grandizing spewings from the winners, and the humorless chatter of the hosts. I'm sorry, this is BS.

Thats a pretty lame excuse but I remember when Jonathan Brandis died, the SAG awards were the ONLY award show to include him in their "In Memory of" segment. So what if Corey wasnt mentioned here, At least he was mentioned in the other award shows.

I can't believe they could be so petty. Anyone who passed away during the year that worked in the field should be mentioned and I agree with BobNYC. Totally messed up.

Personally, I feel that the In Memoriam reel is one of the highlights of the show. They should always plan to run it in full and cut the fat elsewhere.

It was very wrong. Just flashing his photo on the big screen for a even a second is better than none at all.

seriously! this dude was in some of my generations favorite movies; Lucas and Lost Boys! He deserves to be honored by sag for bringing joy to many in those roles.

BS for real..They spent too much time talking about their teamsters and union reps.. If anyone should have been included in should have been Haim, he was already forgotten by the industry while alive

They could have cut out Alec Baldwin's acceptance speech so I didn't have to look at that no-talent jerk and used those extra seconds to include Corey in the memoriam.

I feel the in memoriam is a very important part of the show and all professionals who passed since the last show should be shown and honored during that one special segment when it is appropriate to do so. Any other part of the show could be cut. The in memoriam should never be cut no matter how long it is. All should be included, and shame on them for not including Corey and anyone else who was omitted. His family, friends, and fans, and Corey himself, deserved better. The way I look at it, if you're going to do an in memoriam, include everyone, or don't do it because it's disrespectful to those who are left out.
