Quentin Tarantino tribute: 'Head,' 'Stuck in the Middle With You,' 'Son of a Preacher Man'

quentin-tarantino-critics-choice-awards-getty.jpgQuentin Tarantino was a special honoree at the Critics Choice Awards 2011 with the first-ever Music Plus Film award. To start, the audience and viewers were treated to a wonderful montage of Tarantino's many films, including "Reservoir Dogs, "Pulp Fiction" and "Inglourious Basterds."

Maroon 5's Adam Levine then took to the stage to perform "Stuck in the Middle With You," which is famous (in this instance) for its use in "Reservoir Dogs," followed by Keri Hilson on "Son of a Preacher Man," famous for its use in "Pulp Fiction."

Finally, Tim Roth, one of the stars of "Reservoir Dogs," introduced Mr. Tarantino. He had this to say:

"Quentin Tarantino once said, 'I find the personality of the piece through the music that's gonna be in it. The rhythm of the film' ... When all of us in 'Reservoir Dogs' saw the final movie, we were amazed to see we'd been joined by another very memorable character -- the music. Quentin is a master filmmaker who taught a whole generation how movies and music can work together and make maximum impact."

Finally Quentin himself accepted his award and spoke about starting to be aware of music and movies working together in the late 1960s, especially with the 1968 movie "Head," which is basically a plot-less musical journey starring The Monkees (Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork and Michael Nesmith). We love Quentin Tarantino.

You cannot deny how important the music in Tarantino films is. What's your favorite song? We'd have to give it up for "Stuck in the Middle With You."

Across 110th Street from Jackie Brown is my favorite outside of Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction music.

what kind of sentence is "You cannot die how impactful the music is in Tarantino films."? Impactful? Are we making up words? What are you trying to say Andrea?

According to a little book called the dictionary, "impactful" means "Having a major impact or effect." I guess that's what she's trying to say.

It's a toss up between Mia Wallace's adventure with heroin while listening to Urge Overkill's "Girl, you'll be a woman soon" and Emmanuelle Mimieux putting on makeup and plotting revenge to David Bowie's "Putting Out Fire (Cat People)" in Inglourious Basterds.

"Impactful" is a real word. As in "full of impact". Look it up.
