Lea Michele tapped for 'America the Beautiful' at Super Bowl XLV
Songstress Christina Aguilera is already booked to sing the National Anthem, but now E! News is reporting that "Glee" songbird Lea Michele is taking on "America the Beautiful." The Black Eyed Peas are the halftime headliners, making them the first act under the age of 45 since the Justin Timberlake-Janet Jackson "wardrobe malfunction" in 2004. We're sure Lea is going to do a beautiful job."Glee" also gets the coveted post-Super Bowl TV timeslot, which over the years has brought in huge ratings for shows, ranging from 17.4 million for "Alias" in 2003 to "Friends" at 52.9 million in 1996. Any numbers in that range would be good for "Glee," though we're sure they are hoping for closer to "Friends" than "Alias."
Super Bowl XLV airs live on FOX. Pre-game coverage starts at 2 p.m. ET, with the actual game set for 6 p.m. ET. Who ya got, Steelers or Packers?

Yep, I'm sure a massive portion of the people watching the Super Bowl will also be dying to watch a high school musical TV show.
Having said that, if "Friends" was able to draw a huge audience, and "Alias" was not, then what do I know. "Alias" was a MUCH more male-friendly show, but I don't think the fellas gave it much of a chance because it was a female in the lead.
Anyways, I can't imagine many Super Bowl parties out there leaving the TV on for "Glee".
Also, kudos for changing the lead picture for this article. I preferred the spread-eagled schoolgirl photo myself, but a near-slip is good too.
ugh, you are right in that you don't know anything. Many people watch the Super Bowl and Glee is a smash hit show. "Alias" was the least watched post-Super Bowl show show in the last 20 years (about 17 million). The highest? Friends (52 million).
TJ Spyke, I will counter you with something that you may not be familiar with: facts.
"Alias" got the post-SB slot in its second season, just like "Glee" is about to.
Average viewership for Alias Season 1 = 9.7 million
Average viewership for Glee Season 1 = 9.8 million
So I'm not sure why "Glee" is a "smash-hit" and "Alias" was not.
Also, since you can't read well, I'll point out that your reply had ZERO to do with my original post. I merely questioned how many Super Bowl fans would watch "Glee".
i agree with ugh. glee will get higher ratings than normal, but i'll be surprised if it gets even remotely close to friends. i don't see the same audience turning out for both the superbowl and glee, at least not in monster numbers.
Go Steelers!! I'm sure Lea will look and sound wonderful, even tho "Glee" is already a big hit they deserve this. Personaly I would have picked "BONES" or "Bob's Burger" for after the Bowl. :)
@Ugh - Glee is considered a smash-hit because hits are defined differently than when Alias was on (think of the millions of tracks Glee has sold).
For the record, I was a huge fan of Alias from day 1, but I also like Glee.
Alias had such low ratings (by superbowl standards) because ABC let the post game talking heads rattle on for HOURS and Alias didn't get to start until very, very late. People seem to neglect that fact when talking about Alias' ratings.
Alias' low ratings (by superbowl standards) was because ABC let the post game talking heads rattle on for HOURS and Alias didn't get to start until very, very late. People seem to neglect that fact when talking about the ratings. I was always an Alias fan and it was really annoying that it didn't get the exposure it deserved, especially that episode it was great!
Why choose a show that is doing well, in the ratings? Move a show that should be doing well into that temporary slow. If it does well, some of those will tune in for the regular spot. If it sucks, you know the show could be on its death bed [if it can't keep most of the ratings then it ain't going to pick up more viewers].
