Laura Linney wins Golden Globe, misses ceremony due to father's death

laura-linney-the-big-c.jpgLaura Linney was awarded the Best Actress Comedy/Musical (Television) for her extraordinary work on "The Big C" at the 2011 Golden Globes Sunday night (Jan. 16). But she was not in attendance to accept her award because her father passed away Saturday (Jan. 15).

Romulus Linney was a playwright who wrote of everything from Appalachian life to the Nuremberg trials. He died at his home in Germantown, N.Y. at the age of 80 after a battle with lung cancer.

Despite his prolific career, only one play ever appeared on Broadway. The rest were done in regional theaters and off-Broadway. Romulus is survived by his wife Laura Callahan and daughters Laura and Susan.

Though Romulus just missed seeing Laura take home the Golden Globe, he was around when she won her first Globe in 2008 for her work in the TV movie "John Adams." She also has three Emmys and three Oscar nominations to her credit.

Our condolences to Laura Linney and her family. We are so thrilled you won the Golden Globe and wish you had been there to receive it.
