John Travolta set to play mobster John Gotti?

John Travolta as a mafia don? It could happen if he's tapped to play the title role in "Gotti" -- a biopic about mob boss John Gotti that will track three generations of the crime family.
Producer Mark Fiore told EW he'd love to have Travolta.
"John Gotti, Sr. -- he's an icon," said Fiore. "And so is Travolta ... The Gottis have an image already. People know who they are. You can't just be a good actor, you have to be a great actor who can become John Gotti."
And, because we just can't get enough James Franco news around here, the Academy Award nominee/host is rumored to be under consideration to play John Gotti, Jr. But, Fiore added to EW, Franco is only one of several "A-list actors" they're talking to.
A script is complete and Nick Cassavetes is reportedly super-close to finalizing a deal to direct the movie.
Travolta has taken on dark characters before. He made his comeback as hitman Vincent Vega in 1994's "Pulp Fiction." In 1997's "Face/Off" he played a sometimes menacing criminal opposite Nicolas Cage. And, who can forget his harrowing turn in the "Look Who's Talking" trilogy?
