Halle Berry dismisses idea of Aretha Franklin biopic
Halle Berry was recently named as a contender for playing the lead in the upcoming Aretha Franklin biopic -- by the singer herself. But that doesn't mean Berry is interested.
Speaking With E! News on the Golden Globes red carpet, Berry dismissed rumors, citing her inability to sing as too big of an obstacle in undertaking the role.
"If I could carry a tune, I'd consider it," she says. "Someone should tell Aretha that I can't do her justice."
Franklin doesn't seem to care. During a recent call into the "Wendy Williams Show," the non-pancreatic-cancer-having icon opened up about making the film a reality.
"For the last four years, we've been talking about (the film), and I have had a number of offers," she says. "Unfortunately, they were not good offers. Now, we have something on the table. They have all of the financing on one project... (and are) in the process of writing things for me to approve... Halle Berry is my pick."
Well, she could always lip-sync.

Did she lipsynch when she did Dorothy Danridge? I can't remember, but she did an amazing job with THAT.
And last night she sounded a lot more perky about it when they DID suggest the lip synching.
HALLE,I respect you now more than i ever did before. NO ONE CAN IMITATE ARETHA. AIN'T NO WAY. the only one who could have come close is Etta James. THANK FOR TURNING THIS DOWN.
Why Halle Berry? She can't act nor can she sing. Give me a break this woman is so over-rated it's giving me a headache!
Halle is a tremendously talented actress; however, being able to sing is not a prerequisite in hollywood. Halle would only have to Act like she can sing :-). I mean no one can really do justice to "Retha".
I really believe that Angela Bassett would be a much better fit. She did an excellent job in the role of Tina turner in "What love got to do with it". My vote is ANGELA BASSETT.
Jennifer Hudson would be quite believable, I think.
Aretha is out of her mind, which explains why she thinks she looks good in some of the crap that she wears. Maybe she could get Miss Piggy to play her role, or better yet, that guy from the commercial for the candy bar (you're a Diva when you're hungry).
BTW, I agree also with the comment that Hale Berry can neither act or sing. She is a piece of you know what on two legs, she should be doing porn.
Halle may not be the best actor in the land, however she is a top tier actress. If you haters (of her beauty), would look at some of her earlier movies, you might change your biased evaluation. Obviously Jennifer Hudson should play Aretha, and she can gain weight doing it and blame it on her career.
Aretha needs to be realistic. I think the only reason she wants Halle Berry is because Halle is beautiful and she (Aretha) wants to see herself as something that she isn't.
Halle is a very good actress but Jennifer would fit better in this roll.
