Anne Hathaway cast as Catwoman in 'The Dark Knight Rises'

Anne Hathaway will be Catwoman in the next Batman movie, "The Dark Knight Rises."Warner Bros. announced via press release Wednesday (Jan. 19) that Hathaway will play the role of Selina Kyle/Catwoman in the movie, which is scheduled for release in July 2012. In addition, "Inception" star Tom Hardy has been cast as the villain Bane.
"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story," director Christopher Nolan says. Of Hardy, he says, "I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman's most formidable enemies."
Hathaway was one of several actresses reported to be up for a major role in "The Dark Knight Rises," along with Keira Knightley, Jessica Biel, Charlotte Riley and Kate Mara. One other female role has yet to be filled.
Both Catwoman and Bane have made appearances in previous Batman movies. Michelle Pfeiffer played Selina Kyle in "Batman Returns," and pro wrestler Jeep Swenson played Bane as a henchman to Uma Thurman's Poison Ivy in "Batman & Robin." Given the direction Nolan's Batman films have taken, Hardy's version of the character will likely hew a little closer to the Bane of the comics, where he's a highly intelligent and physically fearsome bad guy.
Filming on "The Dark Knight Rises" is scheduled to begin in the spring.

Fantastic choice.
I was already looking forward to the next Batman but now I can't freakin wait!!!!!
Bad choice IMO she is not enough mysterious, sexy and sparkly yet vulnerable IMO always..anyway Nolan is not very good in his choices for female parts remember Katie Holmes..puke..Johannson was not very good in his movie but granted Cotillard and Carry Ann Moss were quite good..still not the best in term of casting choices for female characters..Let's hope Knightley (she has sparkling charm and charisma)or Riley, very good as Katie from Wuthering Heights with beautiful Hardy boyfriend lol (even if i would prefer a Portman, Mulligan or Fairuza Balk..this girl should be perfect as a Harley Quinn...) will be cast to balance this miscast (and i like Hathaway but she doesn't fit the part in my book but of course she can surprise me after all Ledger who i loved really surprised me when he outshined Nicholson).
Love the choice of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman. She is going to be both fantastic and VERY sexy in the role. I would have been happy with Keira Knightley and Jessica Biel too.
Keira Knightly or Jessica Beil? really? This is the perfect choice, the only other person i can think of is Marion Cotillard.
What is all the hoopla about this girl with the Shakespearean stage name. Her characters are about as unconvincing as a mannequin, and with all that makeup she looks like a prostitute. She must be the daughter or niece of somebody already in the biz. She does have a good shape.
Looks to soft! to play the role of villianess?,can she wield the whip.

Hathaway is so scary-looking, she won't need makeup or a mask.
