'Twilight: Breaking Dawn': Sofia Coppola turned down directing gig
Remember way back in March 2010 when the search for the director of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" was dominating headlines and an impressive list of names were being courted for the job, like Gus Van Sant, Stephen Daldry, Sofia Coppola and Bill Condon? Condon eventually got the gig, but Coppola recently spoke about passing on one of the biggest movie franchises in recent history.In an interview with Vulture, Coppola sets the record straight about Summit courting her to direct the final installment of the uber-popular series. "They approached me. I had asked [Summit] about something else a while ago, but they approached be about that, " she says. "I talked to them about it. I liked the first story, and I have so many friends' kids who love it. I think it's romantic. But yeah, I didn't end up doing it."
Coppola, who has written all of the films she has directed (including "Marie Antoinette," "The Virgin Suicides" and "Lost in Translation"), hints that directing someone else's story may have been what turned her off from the project. "I like writing and doing the whole process. I want to be open to saying I'll try other things, but I can't imagine working from someone else's script."

Of course she passed! It's not like these movies need a good director to be successful. I think they've already proven that the movies themselves don't even need to be good in order to make tons of cash. Why pony up for a real director when you can get a hack for close to nothing? It won't affect their box office - teenage girls are unable to see this crap for what it is.
