Trevor Upham, Cate Edwards engaged; Upham is pallbearer for Elizabeth Edwards' funeral

Just days before her mother Elizabeth Edwards passed away, Cate Edwards announced her engagement to longtime boyfriend Trevor Upham, reports People.

Cate and Trevor met while attending Princeton University and got engaged over Thanksgiving weekend at the Edwards family home in Chapel Hill, N.C. A family friend tells People, "Elizabeth was thrilled."

Upham, a 2008 graduate of Georgetown Medical School, is a doctor in the Washington D.C. area where Cate works as an anti-discrimination lawyer. Upham would often help Elizabeth make sense of all the medical information she received over the course of her cancer treatments. He acted as a pallbearer for Elizabeth's funeral Saturday afternoon (Dec. 11), while Cate gave a very moving and emotional eulogy.
