'The View's' Elisabeth Hasselbeck: Kathy Griffin 'bullying' Bristol Palin

the-cast-of-the-view.jpgOn Sunday's VH1 Divas Support the Troops special, comedian Kathy Griffin made a joke about Bristol Palin's apparent lack of weight loss while participating on "Dancing With the Stars." Bristol responded that she hoped people didn't have to pay money for Kathy's routine.

Now Tuesday morning (Dec. 7), the ladies of "The View" have weighed in on the subject during their Hot Topics segment.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck says, "I think it's something that she needs to cut out ... How is that not bullying in a way? It's pathetic, but it's bullying."

Barbara Walters says that Chris Rock made some Sarah Palin jokes at the Kennedy Center Honors, but Sherri Shepherd is quick to differentiate between mocking the mama bear and mocking the baby bear.

Joy Behar, interestingly enough, says that even though "thou shalt not bad mouth another comedian," she agrees with Hasselbeck and also points out that Griffin should have known her audience better.

Shepherd then says she worked with Griffin on "Suddenly Susan" and Kathy made her cry when Sherri first worked with her because she seemed so mean, but that that is just what Griffin does. Elisabeth says that doesn't matter -- if we say you shouldn't bully people, you shouldn't bully them, whether you're being funny or not.

Shepherd then says that when they talk about supporting each other as women, they can't go making fun of another woman about her weight. It's against the sisterhood.

Whoopi Goldberg was uncharacteristically quiet, which was disappointing because as a comedian, we wanted to hear her opinion on the joke.

What do you think, Pop2it readers? Is it bullying? Or just an over-the-line joke? Has Bristol come so far into the public eye with her appearance on "Dancing With the Stars" that she is no longer just the child of Sarah Palin? Does that even matter? Let us know below.

You know where I stand. There's no such thing as too soon or too far, just funny and not funny. Nothing is sacred when you're up on stage. It just wasn't that funny for how mean it was. Juice wasn't worth the squeeze.

As far as knowing your audience better, that goes without saying. Of course the troops aren't gonna like that joke.

Kathy is a comedian. She is allowed to say whatever she wants. Granted it wasn't funny but she was doing for the troops. Love you, Kathy.

Wow....does the author not know how to use spell check?! Yeesh.

Kathy Griffin is not funny. Never has been. SHe is just an idiot.

Don't know if Hasselbeck or anyone else on "The View" has ever gone out to entertain the troops, either in the Diva special or actually out in the fields, as Kathy has done, but unless or until they have, they have no right to criticize her. Hasselbeck is a bully in her own right so she should be the last to call anyone else a bully. She's just given Kathy some new material for her next show - awesome. Love when Kathy picks on "The View" members...

Kathy has a right to bully and a right to suffer the consequences. Personally, I think she's an angry, unhappy person and I feel sorry for her....her "humor" isn't funny--she just makes fun of other people to as extreme a degree as she can...she must have lousy self-esteem...

Bristol has chosen to become a reality TV star in her own right. She's not some underage child of a politician. She's throwing herself out there. If she doesn't want people talking about her, she shouldn't work so hard to be famous. If she doesn't want people pointing out that she's fat, she should lose some weight. It's pretty simple.

I wish Elisabeth would just go away and I hope Kathy unleases a tirade against her. I hate elisabeth more than any other tv personality.

Eliz only felt it was bullying because it was precious Bristol. Comedians have made money for years telling fats jokes about people -- funny or not. Sherry is an idiot, too. Tomorrow they both will be defending Glenn Beck for picking on a Dem. or liberal.

I wish I was as fat as Bristol.
