Prince William, Kate Middleton official engagement photos released
England's Prince William and his newly-minted fiancee Kate Middleton released a set of engagement photos Saturday (Dec. 11), shot by famed fashion photographer Mario Testino, reports US Weekly."I am very happy to have been asked to cover this historic moment that the whole world was waiting for. They are in their prime and brimming with happiness," says Testino.
The portraits were taken in St. James' Palace in London on Nov. 25. The pair will be wed April 29, 2011 in what will be the biggest royal family nuptials since William's father Prince Charles wed his late mother Diana in 1981.

The Prince Willliam and Kate Middleton engagement reminds us anglophiles of another, more famous royalty/commoner marriage that took place in England in 1936. That was when King Edward abdicated his throne to marry American Wallis Simpson. That caused quite a hubbub in Great Britain, splitting the Brits in two camps, in favor of and against. No such turmoil has entered the William-Kate betrothal. No backlash expected. P.S. They make a good-looking couple in their engagement photos. Anybody who views her as tipsy in one shot is a despicable knave.
