John Mellencamp and wife, Elaine Irwin-Mellencamp, split after 18 years

Another celebrity couple bites the dust.

On Dec. 30, John Mellencamp and his wife, model Elaine Irwin-Mellencamp, announced through a spokesman that they are "calling it a day as a couple." They have been together for 20 years and married for 18 years.

The statement continued, "John and Elaine Mellencamp are proud of their 20 years together and are very happy with their accomplishments both as parents and as a family." The couple have two children together, sons Hud and Speck, who they will continue to raise in Mellencamp's home state of Indiana.

The couple met when Elaine, 41, appeared on the cover of Mellencamp's, 59, 1991 album, "Whenever We Wanted." The couple has not yet filed for divorce and no reason was given for the split.
