'Harry Potter's' David Thewlis and Anna Friel split after 9 years

Remember that old John Mayer song that talked about how nobody breaks up right before the holidays because no one wants to be alone at Christmastime? It was a lie.

Add "Harry Potter" star David Thewlis and his longtime partner, "Pushing Daisies" Anna Friel to the list of pre-holiday celeb breakups that already includes Zanessa, the Dexter siblings, and the sexiest couple alive.

Thewlis and Friel have been together since meeting on a flight to Cannes in 2001 and have a five-year-old daughter, Grace. They have typically split their time between Thewlis' home in London and Friel's home in Windsor, though they also own a Beachwood Canyon home in L.A. together.

Friel, 34, was spotted kissing her 23-year-old "Breakfast at Tiffany's" costar Joseph Cross early this year -- Cross then moved into the couple's Hollywood home in April, though all parties maintained that the relationship was platonic.

Thewlis, 47, once told the Daily Mail, "I am a changed man because of Anna and Gracie. Anna changed me for the better, from a rather wild, restless character into a gentle soul. Gracie has changed me, too. I look at her and am filled with love. I cannot bare to be parted from either of them."

Chin up, Lupin! Though it's always a bummer to be single over the holidays, at least you're in good company this year.
