Golden Globes 2011: James Franco learns of nomination from same friend who sends him 'photos of fat animals'
Hollywood was up bright and early for the Golden Globe Nominations Tuesday morning (Dec. 14), making for a great start to the day for quite a few celebs. To no one's surprise, James Franco was one of the actors honored.
Franco called in to "The Today Show" from the set of his latest film, "Maladies," to chat about the movie that got him a best actor nomination, "127 Hours."
"You would think that the movie would be the slowest and most static kind of narrative around, but actually I think Danny Boyle creates kind of an incredible movie going experience," Franco says of his on-screen dominance during the film.
As for who filled him in on the nomination, Franco received word from "my friend Barry from Fox Searchlight. He's a text message friend, we send each other photos of fat animals," the actor tells Meredith Vieira and Matt Lauer.
How sharing pictures of fat animals translates to breaking news about a Golden Globes nomination, we're not sure. Franco is up against some tough competition, including Jesse Eisenberg, Colin Firth, Ryan Gosling and Mark Wahlberg.
What do you think? Will Franco take home the gold?
