'Buffy' remake eyes Heather Morris. We pick 5 other Sarah Michelle Gellar alternatives

From "Glee" to "Buffy"? Next Movie is reporting that Heather Morris, a.k.a. ditzy cheerleader Brittany on FOX's hit show, is in contention for the role made famous by Sarah Michelle Gellar in the TV series of the same name. To this we say: Nothing. This news has rendered us speechless. Well, almost.

No offense to He-Mo (she seems like a lovely girl), but she's not a Buffy Summers. The report says that Morris' "bubbly comedy" and "athletic skills" make her the perfect choice to take on the role. Hear that every back-up dancer in America? You, too, can play Buffy! Sure, Gellar had comedic chops, but she also had the dramatic skills to back it up. She could make you laugh, cry, yell and smile all in one episode. Also, she could rock leather pants better than anyone.

By now, everyone has heard the reports that Warner Bros. will be remaking "Buffy" without it's creator Joss Whedon, but now we have a few more details on the new project. In the new film Buffy will be a recent college graduate (taking Buffy out of high school? Massive mistake, but we digress) who has to deal with the same hardships every other 23 year-old has to face -- finding a job and love.

While we here at Zap2it don't fully support the idea of Morris as Buffy (sorry Gleeks!), there are a few actresses we believe could (possibly, maybe,) fill SMG's iconic (stylish, yet affordable) boots.

No. 1: Candice Accola
If this movie is actually going to be made (we're still hoping we'll wake up from a really bad nightmare and this will all be fake), she is the only option. We know, we know. She's on "The Vampire Diaries." Keyword: Vampire. But Accola is our favorite for the role. Throughout "TVD's" sophmore season she has proven to possess a lot of the same qualities that Gellar showcased on Buffy: a quiet strength and the ability to break your heart with a single look. Her portrayal of Caroline is an empowered young woman that men, women, girls, boys, anyone really, could look up to and believe in. She has that rare ability to appeal to men and not be hated by women. We also know she can handle stunts and the emotional range required for the role. Take this article as our official announcement that we are backing Accola as the new Buffy Summers. 


No. 2: Dianna Agron
If we want any "Glee" girl to portray Buffy, it's going to be Agron. In fact, when we first read the headline saying that a "Glee" cast member was being eyed for the part, we immediately thought of Agron. While she may be a little on the meek side, we'd like to see Agron's take on the role. She is perfectly unassuming. A huge advantage for Agron will be the release of her film "I Am Number Four," which could help to give her a box office edge over other contenders.


No. 3: Ashley Benson
We find Benson incredibly compelling on-screen and could totally see her taking on the role. it also could be her chance to breakout  and take on a huge acting challenge. While out of all our choices, she's our least favorite, we still would be interested to see how the "Pretty Little Liars" star would fare with a stake. The only negative? She may look too young to play a college graduate. 



No. 4: Katie Cassidy
Cassidy is such an underrated star who deserves a great role. Anyone who has seen Cassidy on "Supernatural" knows she can play a total badass. Anyone who has seen Cassidy on "Melrose Place" knows she can single-handily carry a project. Anyone who has seen Cassidy on "Harper's Island" knows that she can actually act. In simpler terms: The thought of Cassidy as Buffy doesn't make us want to stake ourselves.



No. 5: Taylor Momsen
Because in the end, we really just want this to fail spectacularly. Petty is our middle name. Viva Joss Whedon!
