Bristol Palin responds to Margaret Cho with gay joke
Can everybody just stop blogging about Bristol Palin (and that includes you, Bristol!) so we don't have to cover her anymore? We don't want to prolong her 15 minutes, but as long as people keep making her a subject, she's news. The "Dancing With the Stars" finalist fired back at fellow contestant Margaret Cho, who had blogged Monday, Nov. 29 that Sarah Palin blames Bristol "harshly and openly" for losing her the election two years ago, and that to make up for it, forced her daughter to perform on "DWTS" to get America behind the Palin family again.
In general, Cho's blog post is incredibly kind and complimentary. She praises Bristol as a person and her progress as a dancer. Why Cho feels the need to point out what she felt was going on behind the scenes is our best guess. Why bother?
"But keep in mind there are other forces at work here and it's not just for the love of dance," writes Cho. "Now I am scared I am going to wake up with a decapitated moose head in my bed."
Once Cho put that out there, Bristol naturally had to respond. In a Facebook post Saturday (Dec. 4), the young mother says that she values her time on "DWTS" and calls Cho her friend. She's not too happy about the Sarah Palin allegations though, and is pretty clear on that.
"I will give my friend credit for creativity, and extra points for getting so many 'facts' wrong in so few sentences," says the post. "Let me be blunt: my mom did not 'force' me to go on DWTS. She did not ask me either. The show approached me. I thought about it. I made the decision ... The point is, I seriously doubt anyone who considers herself a student of American politics truly believes I impacted even one vote in that election."
All pretty standard and expected right? Near the end, however, Bristol makes a statement that many are reading as homophobic or at least making fun of gay people:
"You say you 'don't agree with the family's politics at all' but I say, if you understood that commonsense conservative values supports the right of individuals like you, like all of us, to live our lives with less government interference and more independence, you would embrace us faster than KD Lang at an Indigo Girls concert."
Hmm, is this statement a joke at the expense of gay people? Or is this Bristol's clumsy way of being breezy like Cho was with the whole moose head bit? What exactly does she mean by "individuals like you"?

Cho is a gay joke.
Could it be more obvious that those words were written FOR Bristol by one of Mommy Dearest's minions? Bristol does not have the education, vocabulary or sense of self to even begin to understand most of that statement, let alone author it. Hilarious!
I heard that Britol is a lesbian now...
Are you kidding me. This is news? How many freakin' gay jokes are there out there, and you home in on this one? It's not a joke that's malicious to gays. It's sarcasm. It's not close to being offensive, and you guys completely sensationalize it just to smear Bristol (who, for the million-th time, did nothing to anyone to deserve being treated like this). Zap2it has become one of the most disgusting liberal voices on the web. Isn't this an entertainment site? It's just plain disgusting. This website is becoming a joke, and everyone here who's not a liberal (more Americans consider themselves conservative than liberal) is taking notice. Don't ruin your reputation. As a daily reader, I'm close to just saying the hell with it. Obviously you have a narrow targeted audience. Thanks for abandoning the rest of us.
YOU MAKE HER THE SUBJECT, IDIOT!!! Did anyone ask to hear about her? Um...no. So don't blame other people when you are the moron writing about this boring twit.
Hanh Nguyen, you are an idiot
As a gay person, Bristol's joke is hysterical. End of story. As a gay person, I also know that jokes we say are MUCH harsher and far more hateful to dykes, queens, trannies, etc... Whoever wrote this joke for her...HILAROUS!! Good job...and probably true!
this is so stupid. her statement was not offensive. you critisize balin but not cho for putting her two cents in about an election that happend two years ago? people in america need to chill and move on. stop analyzing every little thing celebritys say and get a life.
When a person has previously been accused of being a homophobe it probably isn't the best thing to post gay jokes.
Bullying Bristol must be the new black in Hwood. Behar, Bernhard, Cho and now olberfck....LOL
