Bret Michaels engaged to Kristi Gibson after 16 years

After dating on and off for 16 years, rocker Bret Michaels has finally proposed to Kristi Gibson... on television, naturally.

On the Dec. 20 finale of his VH1 show "Bret Michaels: Life As I Know it," Michaels popped the question. The couple has two daughters together, Raine, 10, and Jorja, 5. Michaels reveals to People that the first thing the couple did was share the news with their daughters, telling them, "I did it! We'll all be together forever! Family hug!"

When he got down on one knee, Michaels told Gibson, "Please say yes or the rejection will kill me right now." She asked, "Are you sure?" to which he answered, "Yes, I'm sure." Gibson said she never thought this day would come.

Michaels suffered a near-fatal brain hemmorhage in April and will undergo surgery for a heart defect in January. During the proposal he said, "And if it doesn't work out and I die during the operation, will you roll my ashes and smoke me?" If that doesn't say true love, we don't know what does.
