Box Office: 'Dawn Treader' cruises over 'Tourist' on weak weekend
The third installment in "The Chronicles of Narnia" series cruised to the top of the weekend box office, but the entire movie landscape was pretty bad this weekend. "Voyage of the Dawn Treader's" $24.5 million opening weekend take puts it in a distant third behind "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe's" $65.6 million and "Prince Caspian's" $55 million opening weekend numbers.Despite its lackluster opening the United States, "Dawn Treader" did have a decent worldwide showing. Studio 20th Century Fox says the movie grossed $105.5 million worldwide, opening at No. 1 in 32 of its 56 markets.
The Angelina Jolie-Johnny Depp spy thriller "The Tourist" was in second place with $17 million. It was predicted to have a $20 million opening weekend, so it's not like it completely tanked, but it still was not a very strong showing.
The Natalie Portman-Mila Kunis sexual thriller "Black Swan" expanded from 18 theaters to 90 and raked in $3.3 million, while "The Fighter," starring Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale, managed an impressive $320,000 at only four theaters.

"Black Swan" is in only 90 theaters and is #5.....cool.
Would imagine the midwest blizzards affected some box office.
Went and saw The Tourist and was excellent...I highly recommend it...To bad it didn't do any better...
Tangled certainly had a strong box office hold (nearly $15 million, 3rd week of release). Probaby one of the few films that will continue doing big business over the Christmas holidays.
"Sexual thriller"? You're selling it a bit short, me thinks.
With an ending like that, it's no surprise The Tourist tanked. It's hold-over numbers will be very weak due to poor word-of-mouth.
Unless the global B.O. numbers are huge for Dawn Treader, this will be the end of the Narnia franchise. Too bad, there was a lot of potential there...
