Aretha Franklin cancer report true, family member confirms

aretha-franklin.jpgIt has been confirmed that legendary singer Aretha Franklin has cancer. A unidentified family member shared the sad news with Fox News 2 in Detroit. Another relative is saying that her family is very concerned, but also says she is doing "okay."

While it is not confirmed what type of cancer Franklin was diagnosed with, a report from PopCrunch cites the National Enquirer as singing she has incurable pancreatic cancer and only has one year to live.

This announcement follows last week's news that Franklin underwent surgery, but no details regarding the procedure were released. Before undergoing surgery, "The Queen of Soul" canceled all of her concert dates through May 2011 for "medical reasons."

Franklin issued this statement following her Dec. 2 surgery:

The surgery was highly successful. God is still in control. I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country. God bless you all for your prayers! -- The Queen of Soul, Ms. Aretha Franklin

In August, the singer suffered a fall, which broke her ribs and  caused her to miss two free concerts in New York.

These is one great lady and a superd artist, our prayers are with you for a speedy recovery

My beloved fiance of 10 years died last week of this cancer after an 18 month battle. He was very fit, never drank, smoked or did drugs so his diagnosis was shocking. Saddly very little can be done as often when it is discovered it has spread and it is only a matter of time. I have been very actively involved with the Pancreatic cancer action committee and the statistics are very bleak. I do hope Aretha is able to survive or at least not endure the pain and suffering my beloved went through. My prayers are with all who suffer all cancer, but especially this one as the pain and suffering is heartbreaking. At least my sweetheart is no longer in pain and I know he is watching over me and our families. I pray for Aretha's health as well.
