'Ugly Betty' actor Michael L. Brea accused of murdering mother with samurai sword

 

Michael L. Brea, an actor who appeared on "Ugly Betty" and in "Step Up 3D," reportedly held his mother hostage and then murdered her with a samurai sword while screaming Bible passages Tuesday (Nov. 23) in Brooklyn, reports WPIX.

Neighbors in the apartment building heard screams coming from the Brea apartment around 1:30 a.m. and called the police.

"I hear the brother chasing her [his mother] through the house and he's just saying a bunch of like [Bible] passages like, 'Repent, Repent, Repent,'" says neighbor Gregory Clare. "I heard him chasing her through the house and I hear a loud scream and so I have my father call the cops, call 911."

When the officers arrived, they had to taser the combative 31-year-old Brea, who was subsequently transported to Kings County Hospital with a police guard. The police say the apartment was extremely bloody and the mother, 55-year-old Yannick Brea, was already dead when they arrived.
