Twinsie alert: Target's Black Friday spokeswoman & Kristen Wiig's 'Target Lady'
Enjoying Black Friday from the comfort of this Barcalounger, our experience with Target's two-day sale is limited to watching the dozens of commercials currently running on HGTV.
Unlike Target's usual spots -- colorful consumer porn with seizure-inducing edits and a top 40 soundtrack -- their new ads boast the brand's first real character since Spot, the spray-painted bull terrier. She has us feeling a bit of deja vu... and not just because this is her second Christmas shilling for the store.
Now, "Saturday Night Live" may not have the patent on blind enthusiasm for Target, but the similarities between Kristen Wiig's ambiguously-accented Target cashier and the store's holiday pitchwoman are uncanny.
Cartoonish facial expressions? Check. Easily distracted? Yup. Brand loyalty? Oh yeah. Offputting yet simultaneously endearing? It's a match!
The only real difference between the two is that Wiig's "Target Lady" is actually employed by the company, while the star of the ads is just a really big fan. Something tells us she'd happily take a job there. Just look at how much she's enjoying the catalog:
And, of course, the original...
We rest our case, but if you're still not sold, just watch one of the umpteen other ads Target's made with the new leading lady.
