Shaun Cassidy does the 'Da Doo Ron Ron' for Oprah

shaun-cassidy.jpgAt the risk of showing our age, Shaun Cassidy may or may not have been our first crush and we may or may not have written our one and only ever fan letter to him (which was never responded to, not even with an autosigned glossy photo). Although, we can safely say that way were most definitely way younger than his actual teen demographic.

Since it's Oprah Winfrey's final season and she can do whatever she wants -- she is Oprah, after all -- she decided to devote Thursday's (Nov. 4) episode to teen heartthrobs of yesteryear.

So, basically, it was an excuse for her to meet her teen crush, Jackie Jackson (Michael's brother and member of the Jackson 5), but she did include Cassidy, the Backstreet Boys and Peter Frampton as well.

What, no *N Sync, New Kids on the Block or Justin Bieber?

Anyway, back to Cassidy.

"You have this special connection with someone if you're their first record or their first concert or their first poster or whatever it is," he tells Oprah. "And I see the look. A 42-year-old woman will walk up to me and I see this beautiful little 9-year-old girl emerge in her eyes. I do. And it's so touching."

Then he played a medley of some of his most popular songs, including "That's Rock and Roll," "Hey Deanie" and "Da Doo Ron Ron."

Ah, the 70s. A simpler time.

When he said the "42 year old woman walks up to him with the nine year old girl in her eyes" that was me. I am 42. I adored Shaun. Had all of his albums and posters.

My daughter loves Justin Bieber...he just doesn't compare...not as cute, doesn't sing as well. After all Shaun was the son of Shirley Jones and Jack Cassidy. Not to mention...David as his half-brother. :) He sang very well and was very very handsome. My daughter said he looked like a girl. I keep telling her that's how they wore their hair in the 70's. :)

Love you Shaun...forever!

I love you too Shaun! Ever since that Oprah show it brought back so many memories and I can't stop looking at you on YouTube and listening to all my old favorites. Thanks Oprah for indulging all us 40 somethings and giving us a trip down memory lane. Shaun, you are my favorite.
