Robert Redford and Barbra Streisand's 'The Way We Were' reunion

It's been 37 years since Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford starred in the classic love story, "The Way We Were." But the duo was reunited on the Tuesday, November 16 episode of  "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in yet another notable final season moment.

Robert surprised Babs on stage for the duo's first interview together because, Robert jokes, "I never thought I'd get a word in." He also acknowledges his reluctance to take the role initially.

"The character in the initial script was, I felt, one dimensional," he says. But for Barbra, there was no other leading man.

"They were talking about other people because he had turned it down so many times," she remembers. "I was hoping and praying but it didn't look good."

Unlike most of the English speaking world, Robert claims to have never seen the full, finished cut of said film. At the time of release he was in another country and says that he did not expect such a level of success of the film. "Not that I thought it was a failure, I just wasn't prepared for the impact."

Though Babs had pulled for a sequel and Robert refused, the two obviously still have their chemistry and fond memories of each other.

"I remember liking her energy and her spirit; it was wonderful to play off of. I also really enjoyed kidding her. She was fun to kid," Robert says of his co-star.

Well played, Oprah. We can't wait to see all the goodies and surprises you have in store for this season.
