Miley Cyrus goes 'Undercover'; Spidey musical possibly delayed

A few movie news noms to hold you till the weekend:

Enough of Miley Cyrus playing girls with alter egos! The popstress has landed the lead in Exclusive Media Group's action comedy "So Undercover." The protagonist is "a tough, street-smart private eye" (but they hired Cyrus anyway), who's hired by the FBI to go undercover at a sorority. Mom Tish Cyrus is one of the producers. [The Wrap]

Uh oh, Spidey-O! The Broadway musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" may not be swinging onto stage as early as planned. New York safety inspectors came by to see the two dozen flying and aerial maneuvers, but the production didn't have them all ready. All 24 stunts must be approved before the show is allowed to open on Sunday, Nov. 14. We blame Doc Ock for the delay. [New York Times]

Illegal trade in Indian owls is blamed on black magic rituals and the "Harry Potter" craze. Apparently, Potterheads wanting to have their very own Hedwig have fueled the sale of 15 of the country's 30 owl species, which is threatening their Indian population. [Reuters]

"Inception" star Tom Hardy has landed the plum vampire role of Henry Sturgess in Timur Bekmambetov's adaptation of "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter." In the book, Henry is a good vampire who befriends the famous president when he's just a teenager and teaches him how to hunt and kill the bad vampires. The Tim Burton-produced flick is slated for a June 2012 release. [Bloody Disgusting]

Legendary movie studio MGM has filed for bankruptcy and will merge with Spyglass Entertainment. Middle Earth won't be in danger though (at least, not from us), since they've requested a loan to keep "The Hobbit" production in motion. [NPR]

Brad Pitt is out of James Gray's "The Lost City of Z," now that the A-lister is nosing around Andrew Dominik's crime caper "Coogan's Trade," which would reunite him with his "The Assassination of Jesse James by That Coward Robert Ford." [The Playlist]
