Mariah Carey Christmas video showdown: 'Oh Santa!' vs 'All I Want For Christmas Is You'
Mariah Carey's long overdue follow-up to her 1994 Christmas album hit stores on Nov. 2. And just in time for "Merry Christmas II You," the pregnant singer has a video for the first single, "Oh Santa!"
But does it come anywhere close to filling the shoes of its modern-day-classic predecessor, "All I Want For Christmas Is You?" Let's take a look at them both.
First of all, "Oh Santa!" should be commended for including so many elements that speak to the holidays: nostalgia, Radio City Music Hall, short-cut Santa suits... cheerleaders. But its also got something Mariah didn't have back in 1994, ego. That overly flattering announcer that kicks of video lays it on a bit too thick. But does it come anywhere close to filling the shoes of its modern-day-classic predecessor, "All I Want For Christmas Is You?" Let's take a look at them both.
On the flip side, there's "All I Want For Christmas Is You," which doesn't just attempt to recreate nostalgia so much as embody it. But that could just be something earned over time. (And puppies don't hurt either.)
