Joel McHale hosting Spirit Awards; Steven Soderbergh says 'U.N.C.L.E.'

Joel McHale has been tapped as host of the 2011 Independent Spirit Awards. The awards will take place on Feb. 26 in Santa Monica; nominees will be announced Nov. 30. [IFC]

Director Steven Soderbergh is in talks to direct an adaptation of the 1960s TV series "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." for Warner Bros. The negotiations are in their early stages, but if they work out Soderbergh would reteam with writer Scott Z. Burns, who penned "The Informant!" and the upcoming thriller "Contagion." [Hollywood Reporter]

Speaking of remakes: Warner Bros. is also interested in a new version of "The Wizard of Oz" and is speaking with Robert Zemeckis about directing it. The new film would use the 1939 version's original script. [Deadline]

Emily Blunt may be joining Jason Segel in a "Five-Year Engagement." The actress (who co-stars with Segel in the upcoming "Gulliver's Travels") "will soon get an offer" for the comedy, which Nicholas Stoller ("Get Him to the Greek") is directing. [Vulture]
