'Harry Potter' conjures $24 million in midnight screenings
The midnight opening of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I" set a franchise record at the box office. The movie earned an estimated $24 million at midnight showings in some 3,700 theaters. That's the most a "Potter" film has ever raked in with a midnight opening, beating the $22 million for "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" earned in the July 2009.
It's not, however, an all-time midnight box-office record. That honor still belongs to "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," which earned $30 million at midnight screenings earlier this year. "Eclipse" went on to make $68.5 million in its first day, which is second all-time (behind "New Moon").
The highest "Harry Potter" opening currently belongs to "Half-Blood Prince," which made $58.2 million on its first day. "Deathly Hallows" is on pace to break that mark, and forecasters are predicting it will make in the neighborhood of $130 million for the weekend. That would put it way ahead of the series' previous mark: $102.7 million for "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" in 2005.

Oh it was SO worth staying up for. It was a spectaular film that totally made up for the snoozefest of Half-Blood Prince. I want to see it again ASAP. It's left me with an insatiable hunger for Part 2. The cliffhanger was at the perfect place.
Absolutely worth it.
